Referring a patient to Retina Institute of North Georgia
We are committed to prompt, high-quality retina care for your patients and clear, timely communication back to your office. We welcome referrals from ophthalmologists, optometrists, primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and all other providers in the North Georgia area.

Urgent and Same-Day Referrals
We prioritize urgent referrals and make every effort to see time-sensitive patients the same day or next day. Please call our office directly for any of the following:
- Sudden vision loss or visual field defect
- New onset flashes and floaters concerning for retinal tear or detachment
- Suspected retinal detachment
- Retinal artery occlusion
- Rapidly progressive diabetic retinopathy with vitreous hemorrhage
- Any other acute retinal emergency
Routine Referral Indications
We welcome referrals for the full spectrum of vitreoretinal disease, including but not limited to:
- Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema — initial evaluation, co-management, and treatment
- Age-related macular degeneration — dry and wet, including anti-VEGF management
- Retinal vein and artery occlusion
- Flashes, floaters, and posterior vitreous detachment
- Retinal tears — laser retinopexy
- Epiretinal membrane and macular pucker
- Macular hole
- Central serous chorioretinopathy
- Uveitis affecting the posterior segment
- Inherited retinal dystrophies and genetic retinal conditions
- Choroidal lesions and nevi requiring monitoring
- Pre-operative retinal evaluation prior to cataract or refractive surgery
What to Include With Your Referral
To help us prepare for your patient's visit, please include the following when available:
- Reason for referral and relevant clinical history
- Most recent fundus photos, OCT imaging, or fluorescein angiography
- Current medication list, including any prior ocular treatments
- Insurance information
- Patient contact information
Communication and Co-Management
We send a detailed consultation report to your office following every visit. For patients requiring ongoing retinal treatment, we are happy to discuss co-management arrangements that work for your practice. We view our relationship with referring providers as a partnership, and we are always available to discuss a patient's case directly by phone.
